We offer a range of services to support you through your Post-natal journey. If you're ensure what service you need, please talk to us with a complimentary call.
After your 6 week Obstetric review we suggest seeing one of our Women's Health Physiotherapists for a "Post natal WOF" appointment to check pelvic floor activation and strength, assess abdominal separation and to check your general pelvic strength and function. From this assessment your Physio will provide a tailored online exercise program, answer any questions you may have about what activities you can do and when, plus advice and a plan to get you back to the things you love. Your return to fitness and function may include a few follow up sessions to monitor progress and adjust your exercises, and your physiotherapist may suggest starting Pilates.
If you don't have time to see us at the 6 week mark, don't fret - seeing the team at any time post-partum will help!
What you can expect from your post-natal check:
Should there be any concerns from either yourself or your Physio around pelvic floor function such as significant weakness, incontinence, constipation, pelvic organ prolapse, separation of the abdominals, or slow recovery in general, these should get picked up during your WOF consult and may shift the appointment towards addressing these issues with ongoing Physiotherapy sessions.

Ready to get moving again? The thought of getting back into exercise after having a new baby can be very daunting, at Auckland Physiotherapy we are experienced so you can be confident your programme is specific to your needs whether you have had a vaginal birth or cesarean section and whether you are 6 weeks or 6 months in to motherhood! This 60 minute session is for anyone who wants to start Pilates classes, 1-1's or a Pilates home program.
The exercises you will do during pilates can be modified to any level of fitness and close supervision allows us to progress you at your own pace to make sure you get the most out of each session. You can start postnatal pilates any time after your post-natal WOF (after 6 weeks) or if you have had the ok from a Women's Health Physio, but it is still beneficial to start 6-12 months or more after having children!
What will you get out of Post-natal Pilates?
* Pelvic Floor Retraining
* Core Muscle Strengthening: Including the deep abdominals and gluteal muscles
* Specific pilates-based exercises can help to reduce rectus diastasis (abdominal separation).
* Real-time Ultrasound training on your abdominals and pelvic floors to ensure correct activation and technique
The 6-week postnatal milestone is often regarded as the time when women can return to exercise, sport or training but in reality the healing process continues well beyond this. Like any injury or recovery approach, healing after childbirth is not simply about timescales. There are a multitude of factors that play an important role in a successful recovery including pelvic floor function, physical fitness, sleep, nutrition, breastfeeding and psychological status.
Our Master's Physio Kirsten Rose is excited to provide you with the guidance you need to make a successful return to your chosen activity or sport. From her 60 minute return to sport/running sessions you can expect:
* Evidence-based testing protocols to assess your readiness to return to running/sport
* Personalised exercise programmes to ensure you have the required strength, mobility and endurance to perform your activity safely.
* Guidance for how to fuel your body effectively using simple nutrition strategies that actually fit into mum life
* Guidance with sleep and stress management to help your body recover as well as possible in amongst the sleep deprivation.
We would recommend that you have had an initial post-natal WOF prior to booking in for our return to sport assessment. If you would like to discuss your suitability for these sessions book in for a complimentary phone consultation.
